Sometimes the hardest thing one can have as a business owner is perspective. I know that I struggled with this at times when I put
my heart and soul into my much-loved inner-west cafe, Neumann’s Kitchen. With the great successes came the odd culinary disappointment. As business grew, I was keen to illicit more but like so many, was time-poor.
The excitement one feels when entering the world of owner/operator is challenged when the days become longer, family priorities take second place and the hard work is not always matched in dollars received. Passion converted into profit is a fine line, and this is where another set of constructive hands and commercial and consumer knowledge is invaluable.
I have spent most of my working life in the hospitality industry, and in many roles; ranging from Front of House, Commercial Kitchen, Specialized Catering, Personal Chef, Home Economist and Food Writer. I am able to see from every perspective the trials and tribulations of being a Cafe Owner/Operator and have recently found great satisfaction in helping others work towards their goals.
