There was a time when our young soldiers would wait for tins of these golden discs to arrive on foreign shores for a ‘sweet’ taste of home. G-d bless the Mums , Nanas, Wives and Sisters who baked them. May we never forget all of the young soldiers alive and passed who’ve fought under the Australian and New Zealand Flags. Lest we forget.
Preparation Time: 15min Cooking Time: Approx 15-20 min

INGREDIENTS
1 C plain flour
1 C rolled oats
1 C brown sugar
½ C shredded coconut
125g butter
½ tsp salt
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
4 tbsp golden syrup
2 tbsp water
Method
- Pre-heat oven at 175 C and grease baking tray.
- Sift the flour and salt into a bowl. Add the sugar, rolled oats and coconut.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the golden syrup and water, remove from heat. Stir in the bicarbonate of soda.
- Pour liquid into the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly with wooden spoon.
- Once dough is formed, place small balls onto greased tray (walnut size) and bake for 15-20 min, or until a deep golden colour.
